The Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) has officially revoked the recognition of three foreign halal certification bodies: China Islamic Association (China), the Centre for Halal Quality Certification (Croatia), and the Ritual Association of Lyon’s Great Mosque (France), effective Feb 20, 2025.
Products certified by these bodies are now barred from entering Malaysia. However, exceptions apply to products already in Malaysia or are being shipped before Aug 19, 2025, provided they include appropriate documentation.
According to JAKIM Director-General Datuk Dr Sirajuddin Suhaimee, the revocation is a result of compliance issues. The affected bodies must address their shortcomings before any reconsideration of their status.
Meanwhile, manufacturers are encouraged to seek certification from other JAKIM-recognised bodies.
This action underscores JAKIM’s commitment to upholding Malaysia’s halal standards and protecting consumer confidence in halal-certified products. –
